A Goat Becomes the Teacher

Posted by Pastor Szekely on November 21, 2006

Just came across this illustration…thought it was good…take a read:

In Budapest, a man went to the pastor and complained, “Life is unbearable. There are nine of us living in one room. What can I do?” The pastor answered, “Take your goat into the room with you.” The man was very hesitant, but the pastor insisted. “Do as I say and come back in a week.”

A week later the man came back looking more distraught than before. “We cannot stand it,” he told the pastor. “The goat is filthy.” The pastor then told him, “Go home and let the goat out, and come back in a week.”

A radiant man returned to the pastor a week later and exclaimed, “Life is beautiful. We enjoy every minute of it now that there’s no goat — only the nine of us.”

The moral of the story: “We just don’t know how good we got it”! We as born-again, we as believers, we as Christians, just don’t realize how blessed we are of God. Isn’t it like many of us who name the Name of Christ to complain rather than count our blessings.

Thanksgiving in America is upon us. We have so much for which to be thankful…and we as believers have the One who deserves are sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving. During this time, if you find yourself complaining, stop…count your blessings from God…be content…and then thank Him.

May we be like the Apostle Paul who wrote, “…for I have learned {he is saying that he had disciplined himself}, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed {by the Lord & His Word} both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” Phil. 4:11-12.

Friends, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever” 1 Chron. 16:34! Be content, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
