“Commit thy way unto the LORD” Psalm 37:5
We are once again reminded from this wonderful Psalm to place all our plans, desires, needs, and our whole future into the loving and most capable Hands of our Lord and Saviour. We are encouraged by command to commit our way unto Him…but what does this mean? What is it about the word commit in Psalm 37:5?
The word commit here has an incredible definition! It literally means to roll upon, and a great way to illustrate this is by observing the camel.
Camels and horses are similar in that they both are beasts of burdens. When a horse has his burden loaded, he stands…but when a camel is loaded, he lies down so that his burden can be rolled upon him.
WOW…do you see it? When we are called to commit our way unto the LORD, we are called to roll everything away – our burdens, our plans, our ambitions…everything – and lay them all on the Lord…who laid down His life for us!
I like what Spurgeon says on this in “The Treasury of David”: Roll the whole burden of life upon the Lord. Leave with Jehovah not thy present fretfulness merely, but all thy cares; in fact, submit the whole tenor of thy way to him. Cast away anxiety, resign thy will, submit thy judgment, leave all with the God of all. What a medicine is this for expelling envy! What a high attainment does this indicate! How blessed must he be who lives every day in obedience to it!
Start today! Start rolling your way unto God. The Lord Jesus Christ has laid down His life for you, and He can bear your heavy load. Commit your way, Christian! Commit it all to Him who has given it all! ROLL ON, BRETHREN…ROLL ON!
