Empty Promises

Posted by Pastor Szekely on August 7, 2006

To we who are children of God, the physical, bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is at the center of our faith. If Jesus would not have come back from the dead and left that “borrowed” tomb, we would still be looking for Messiah!

Scoffers say that followers of Christ are foolish and that we are holding on to some empty promises when it comes to the Lord’s bodily resurrection…I cannot agree that we are foolish, but I will agree that the Lord’s followers are holding on to some “empty promises”…let me explain:

Followers of the Lord Jesus Christ hold on to an empty cross! It proclaims God’s promise of forgiveness: “But he, whom God raised again {that’s the Lord Jesus}, saw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins” (Acts 13:37-38).

Believers also hold on to an empty tomb! It proclaims God’s promise of eternal life: “He is not here {in the tomb}, but is risen” (Luke 24:6). “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:14-15).

These “empty promises” for a child of God proclaim forgiveness and eternal life! But for every person, it all comes down to faith. You must trust in the Bible fact that Jesus Christ was crucified and died, was buried, and on the third day physically rose from the dead, becoming THE Payment for YOUR sin debt if you only believe!

I pray that those “empty promises” either comfort you or convict you.
